    NBN Case Study

    Catalyst Contamination Sorting

    The Challenge

Impregnated extrudates were contaminated with non-impregnated extrudates at a 4% contamination rate. The contamination level rendered the product unusable. This product was very expensive and would've been a multi-million-dollar loss had it not be remediated. The only difference in the contamination was the color of the material which was the size of a grain of rice.

    The Process

A process of hiring 19 temporary employees for one month was underway. Each temp employee, armed with tweezers, combed through the material looking for discolored granules. An incentive plan was implemented with monetary targets in order to promote efficiencies, exceptional quality and solid productivity.

    The Solution

The solution delivered clean, non-contaminated material in the desired packaging to the customer. They were able to sell the material through their normal channels.

    The End Game

This remediation effort thwarted a seven-figure loss for the client. The customer spent $67,000 with NBN.
